Now in the downloads section at SCE http://www.rfstockcars.com/ is a one click .exe that installs the latest version of their stockcar mod .098 along with a new, patched stand-alone version of rFactor itself just for the stockcars.
This is very cool as you only load into memory what you need to run the stockcars. You do need to have a registered version of rFactor already on your HD for this to work!!
These guys are really listening to what guys in the community are asking for in the mod and doing their best to provide it.
This is the best ride in a sim-stockcar available today!!!!! |

Hey, I'm looking for help with Rfactor. At Xmas time I got the game, installed it and played around a little with it. Then I found the 0.97 version SCE and it was a click install but I think it just installed in my original game folder. Now the .98 version says to install into a different folder. Can you help explain what this means exactly? Have I already screwed up? Do I need to uninstall everything and start all over? I wanna try some online racin with Rfactor but am having trouble.
Thanks,

What it does is creates a seperate version of rFactor that contains only the SCE stockcar mod. It installs a new, patched version of rfactor with the mod so you'll now have 2 versions of RF. Just make sure you install and SCE tracks or tweaks to the correct version. Also go into that version, find the .exe, make a shortcut, name ot SCE and move it to your desktop for easy access to the sim.
There's a soundpack & some tweak files we've been passing around among the SCE series drivers so just ask if you get stuck with anything.
Get comfy with it and apply to our Roaddog SCE series. We've been having some great racing lately |

| Scott how the heck you been? Yea you gotta get that rfactor going and come join us for some of the best racing I've seen so far. You can actually have some contact and not go flying off the track, even in the corners. |

Yeah, I've got it running but since there seems to be no setups or fixed racing. I know nothing about setups and my first adventure at Atlanta resulted in me being 3 seconds slower than the AI. If I have to create my own setups it will be hard pressed for me to run cause with 3 kids doing something every day of the week my time is limited. I hope to run some, though.

Scott, in our Roaddog SCE series and even in the pickup races online sets are passed around freely as everyone is trying to get up to speed together. That's a cool feature in rFactor; the ability to pass sets back & forth while in a race server.
Besides the forum here we also have one at our Series sponsors site http://www.starsmotorsports.com/ so between them I'm sure you'll find the help you need.
Being teammates Russ has access to all the sets I do so I'm sure he'll tighten you up with a couple of good ones |

Thanks for the sets Russ. I installed the Atlanta setup that you had and I was deep into the Rev Limiter the whole time? I went in and adjusted 4th gear until I wasn't in the rev limiter anymore and I was still a bunch slower than the AI. I let the AI take over my car for a bit and it seemed like the AI was full throttle all the way around the track. I can't even come close to doing that. I was running 33.0's on my best laps while the AI was in the 29's. Either my time away has really digressed my skills or I'm doing something wrong. I was in the wall a bunch from overdriving the corners. Also I have downloaded many tracks from various places and I'm unsure how to add them. Some are just .zip files and others look to use an executable. Where do they go and how do I install them. I had a few issues with the 0.98 version where my video card was locking up and dropping me out of the game. At one point of the track it seemed the video would turn grey then back to color. I 'm reluctant to join a series if I'm going to be that slow but I really want to try some online stuff. When I tried to go online from the original game I couldn't join any races cause it said I had the wrong game. Maybe the site was running 0.98 cause I didn't have it then. I'll keep looking on the other sites for more info.

| Oh, yeah. Who is painting cars for this game. I'm definately not a painter but would love to have the bobcat paint job(see below) put on a car. |

Okay...a few things here. First, get the 0.98 download, read the instructions for installing (AND eliminating previous versions like 0.975), and install 0.98 Once done, make sure you have the "track pack" which has the SCE tracks (don't worry about getting Soulrender or JNS tracks just yet) and updated skins from the rFactor www.rfstockcars.com site installed. Once the updates are done, start the sim, choose a car and "buy" it, as well as all of the available upgrades for that car - you'll see them in the menu at the bottom left. When running a "Test Session" or "Race Weekend", make sure you select the appropriate car for the track (you wouldn't use a SuperSpeedway car at Bristol, for example), as well as the appropriate upgrades for your car/track (low end torque, high end torque, tire option #1, for examples). Making the correct choices as mentioned will alone improve your lap times significantly. THEN you can start twisting on your setups.
This sim is much more involved than the Papy sims of old. Believe me, the time spent to get used to it and making the switch will be well worth it. Don't get frustrated - we ALL had to learn this from the ground up, so to speak. There will be someone to help if you have questions.

Scott, don't base anything on what the AI are doing. This deal is primarily for online racing. Hopefully someone will develop the AI down the road.
If you have concerns about league racing here's a couple of things to consider; this rFactor / SCE stockcar stuff is still maturing and we're all learning & growing with it. If you have concerns, our Roaddog Thursday night SEMI division is the perfect place to get aquainted with the sim. It is designed for guys new to this sim with relaxed rules to ease into the experience.
Personally making the transition from N2003 to SCE I had to almost re-learn my approach to sim racing. We all got used to "well this works" little tricks to going fast in N2003 that don't fly in SCE. I had to completely stop running N2003-05 before I was able to develop competative techniques for SCE (which were remarkably similar to the techniques I used in real cars and are taught in schools like Skip Barber which I attended way back when).
