Season 2 Opener - Stock Semi-Pro IV Results for July 23rd, 2008

Our first race of the season kicked off for SSP4 Season 2, and A_Bennett earned the right to 'kiss the bricks', as he took his Alexander Keith's Chevrolet Impala SS across the finish line!

Welcome to another season of the COT, as we retire the NR2005 engine that used NR2007 tracks, to the full-blown NR2007 engine, tracks and all. SSP4 forges onto new territory with the same ole faces, with our last season's champion JJ ready to defend his title.

10 drivers showed up for our first race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, otherwise known as The Brickyard. Even with a modified fuel tank with the new NR2007, we still are using 2x the wear, so drivers had to plan accordingly.

Andy made up for last season by nailing all the top scores, which included hot laps in practice, the pole, fastest race time, most laps led...the dude was on fire. This race had 4 cautions and ran for 64 laps.

Andy led the way, as the green flag flew for the start of Season 2. First lap could not avoid the caution as Chuck D scraped some wall coming out of turn 3, and Matt couldn't swerve in time and got a piece of Chuck as Matt went for a spin. Mike tried to go wide but nicked a spinning Matt just enough to join him for a spin.

Still early in the race but everyone decided to pit, except Phil who took advantage of an early caution to take the top spot.

Phil led the way as it went green on lap 5. Andy quickly passed Phil as it stayed green for quite a few laps. JJ slid up and got loose trying to make an inside move on Eli, but he quickly backed off. Eli had quite a bit going on all around him and he went inside and slowed up a bit to let the rest have at it. JJ started moving up in the ranks, at one point going right in the middle and making it 3-wide for Matt and Chuck, having a close call with Matt.

Lap 11 caution flew when Shriner had some type of pc malfunction and had to slow down to a halt on the inside. Information received after the race is that he was driving blind when it happened and was able to still control his car, so he just veered inside away from everyone and stopped. As he tried to get it back up and running, he lost 3rd gear, finally calling it quits for the day. Pitting for all, except for Dave who got his 5 bonus points before coming in.

Green flag on lap 15! Mike had a bad restart as Andy rocketed away, and everyone but the caboose rolled on by Mike as he got up to speed. Eli seemed to be having a ball, staying behind Mike and playing some draft bumping games, finally leaving the track on lap 21 for unknown reasons.

SSP4 saw its first round of green flag pit stops around lap 29, as everyone got 4 tires and fuel. Andy retained the lead after all was said and done, and we went a few more laps until lap 39 when JJ got wobbly on the front straight and played some pinball with the walls, spinning at one point. Pitting for all.

Lap 44 green flag! JJ's troubles were far from over, as he slammed that wall pretty hard on the backstraight, but kept it going. Another lap saw him spinning out and slamming some more wall. No caution as he was bringing up the rear. He wall-slammed and spun his way back into pit lane, facing the opposite direction, lol. Not a good night for our Season 1 champ! He finally parked it and called it a day.

Meanwhile on the track, Chuck got loose coming out of turn 3, hit some wall, then spun, exploding his left front tire. Matt came around the turn and before he could react, bodyslammed Chuck, which put Matt at an almost-standstill. You know some damage occurred there, lol! Chuck went flying like a spinning top as our last caution came out for the day on lap 47. Chucks car was finished so he parked it for the day.

Pitting for all, and it looked like everyone could go the distance without stopping. Last restart saw 3 PSI'ers in the top 3, and rarin' to go, as the green flag flew on lap 52. Andy managed to hold off Mike, who stayed close behind but just couldn't get up to his bumper, as Andy took his Alexander Keith's Chevrolet Impala SS to the checkered flag!

Congratulations Andy!
